Kirala Kele Sanctuary
Kirala Kele is an area covered with mangrove forests in the south of Sri Lanka. It stands today as a key habitat for wetland biodiversity in Southern province. Kirala Kele is one of the most important children of mother Nilwala. Kirala Kele is not only a wetland, it is also a bird land to many wonderful birds.
LOCATION AND ACCESS
Kirala Kele wetland is found in a 3km short distance inland
from the Southern Sri Lanka city of Matara district alone Matara-Hakmana Road
and Matara-Akuressa Road. The wetland is a part of a Nilwala river basin. It
comprises some 750 acres of wetland.
